Top 5 scariest places in the world
There are places in the world that give you goosebumps as soon as you think about them. Aokigahara suicide forest in Japan is number one on our list. In the old days in Japan, suicide was known as samurai’s act.
No one was killing themselves because they couldn’t adapt to society. In the forest, you can see dead bodies still hanging from a rope, abandoned cars, and clothes all over the forest.
People who turned back from their suicide attempt, said, that something in the forest was calling them to commit suicide. There are over 100 suicides in this forest per year.
Very interesting is the history of suicide in Aokigahara and the place has long been associated with death; ubasute (abandoning an old woman) may have been practiced there into the nineteenth century, and the forest is reputedly haunted by the yūrei of those left to die.
The second place is Destitute Cemetery City. This city is stated in Guatemala, and it is known for unusual way of burying the dead. The graves are stacked on top of each other and the city really looks like the city of the dead. They even pay the rent for it, and if they don’t, people will smash it and remove the remains.
It was built in 1880, during general Justo Rufino Barrios presidency. Ruined by 1917-18 earthquakes, it never recovered its old splendor; originally it was exclusive for the elites and presidents, but gradually the eight Mayan hills that form it were invaded without any urban plan, like what happened with Guatemala City itself after the 1917-18 and 1976 earthquakes.
Third one on the list is the Island of Dolls in Mexico. Many years ago, a man named Julian Santana found a girl buried with her doll, so he hung up her doll on the tree, thinking she could find her peace by doing it. After hearing screams at night, he continued hanging dolls because he believed that doll has been possessed by girls spirit. Even now, after Julian died, people are still coming to continue tradition. There are even stories that people heard dolls whispering to them!
The next one that needs our attention is the ghost town of Pripyat in Ukraine. This town was abandoned after Chernobyl and the result is a creepy old town that is frozen in time. It has been left exactly as it was 30 years ago. Expert say that humans won’t be able to live there for another 600 years.
Interesting enough, this city was designed to serve the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant as an extension and accommodate it’s workforce (in 1979) up until the disaster from 27th April 1986. Initially was requested that the Power Plant to be situated near Kiev but according to health hazard it was decided to be moved 100 Km away to Pripyat. When the disaster happened the whole city (that is close to 43k people) were evacuated in 2 days.
