    No, Facebook. I don’t want:

    – marketplace shit

    – to know how many days in a row I’ve shared

    – auto playing videos

    – randomly sorting news…wtf happened to most recent by default…just…why

    – why the fuck are friend suggestions of people I don’t fucking know in with the app notifications????

Just delete the app, use it in your web browser.

Use a Windows phone…. They haven’t updated the app in like 3 years, it’s great!

Auto play videos with sound should never be a thing.

    Honest Question:

Considering literally every single thing you read about Facebook anywhere, why do people still use Facebook?

I feel like posting about Facebook here is just cheating

Fb is getting ridiculous. One thing that really annoys me is now if i turn notifications off for it via my phone settings for fb and messenger, it will absolutely harass me about notifications until i turn them back on. You can fuck off buddy.

My big peeve is that on mobile, or any app I’ve tried (Tinfoil, etc.), it automatically refreshes if you click a link, or open a new tab. So if someone posts an article, I go to read it, and I can’t get back to comment on it because it’s no longer in my feed where I can find it.

    Infuriating.

I use Facebook’s mobile website and downloaded Messenger lite. Best thing ever.

I use “Lite Messenger for Facebook” by Magic Cooker on Android. No permissions, it’s free, and it gets rid of a lot of the shit. It does both regular FB stuff and the messenger stuff despite the name.

This is going to make public transit even more enjoyable. Thanks Facebook! I can’t wait to hear the cacophony of videos featuring screaming toddlers, blown out concert recordings, shrill tween laughter, and god-awful amateur rapping.

You should see a little boost to your battery life if you drop the Facebook app. It loves to use data in the background

And of course the first video with audio that played automatically on my feed was an ad. What else was this going to be used for?

I never got on the Facebook train and the more I watch it riders complain the happier I am skipping it.

I do use Instagram to lurk but it’s so minimal in it’s invasive ads, it’s great.

<fb respects your prefs, so you can also mute your phone>
It’ only me, or is it really a middle finger about that respect? Also it is sounds as if they could be able to they would just disable your phone’s volume settings.

Yeah, you say “you can fuck right off, Facebook” but the reality is you’ll log in again tomorrow. They fucking love that you’re advertising this feature for them.

I can’t stand the shit, uneducated opinions that get spewed out by ugly single mothers and bitter, unemployed skinheads. Facebook truly is “Loser with no direction” territory.

facebook is the main offender of asshole design. they used to let you use messenger via the website. they used to have messenger built into the fb app. I hate facebook.

  31. GoldHandTheGood

  32. trichofobia

People still use the Facebook app? I only use messenger because friends do and it’s convenient, I find fb itself kinda annoying.

One approach I’ve seen on the web, on Wired I think, is to have autoplaying videos, but the sound is muted. And it’s got a big speaker icon with a diagonal line through it and overlay text saying that if you would like to hear the video, click that icon.

I don’t really like autoplaying videos either, but if you’ve got to do them, that’s a much better approach. I appreciate it when a website realizes I don’t want blaring shit in my face and gives me a good way to control it.

I actually watch those videos sometimes. Wired has good content. But shit like what OP is complaining about? Fuck that.

This and the ridiculous amount of memory the app uses is the reason I uninstalled it forever ago. Since it’s been gone my phone has been running beautifully.

Reminds me of a bit from comedian Nate Bargatze

    > No one has a good day on Facebook. It’s everybody’s worst days of their lives. You’ll, like, wake up and turn it on and it’s just like “You wanna see a murder video?” and you’re like “I don’t, at all. I just woke up, just trying to see who’s birthday it is, you know?” And they’re just like “Well we already started playing it, so…”
    “…Well, alright, I guess I’ll watch that.”

  37. rodolfotheinsaaane

    July 18, 2017 at 3:32 pm

My favorite was when found out there was a “bug” that once a video started playing it kept playing even if you closed the app, thus keeping the app alive (and harvest all personal information associated with it) and adding more viewers to the video. It was only discovered because of the battery drain. Really the only solution is to uninstall stuff like that.

Facebook just doesn’t want you to leave their app. while you press back navigation key on Android at the Facebook’s home screen instead of closing it, It’ll reload the whole damn feeds to make you stay scrolling.

My problem with this is it encourages less poeple to add subtitles onto their videos. I’m hard of hearing and this new phase has been awesome for me. It’ll be sad to see it go.
