I love his covers but I feel like I’m in the minority when I say I can’t stand the way he draws comics. I respect him and his contributions, but the art’s just not for me.

Overall, his Spidey is one of my favorites. I especially love his Green Goblin. He looks like a fucking demon.

Great piece by JRJR. He’s done some great stuff with Batman over the last year as well. [Similar shot here.](https://img.purch.com/o/aHR0cDovL3d3dy5uZXdzYXJhbWEuY29tL2ltYWdlcy9pLzAwMC8xNjIvMzkzL29yaWdpbmFsL0JhdG1hbl81MS5qcGc=)

One of my favourite spidey images of all time. I’m changing my phone background to this actually, so damn good…

    Hey, I recognize that!!!

It’s a limited edition giclee print sold about 15 years ago, through – of all places – the WB store in the mall (back when that was a thing that existed.)

I have a copy of this in my office, print 23/25.

When I picked it up, JR SR was there. We chatted and he drew me a quick sketch too!

Edit: found the drawing, it’s dated Oct 2000.

I honestly don’t know who does the ‘brooding on a skyscraper stone outcropping in the rain’ better – Bats or Spidey

That water looks extremely thick, almost gooey. Not stringy enough. I mean it’s still great and all but that water throws me off.

I just reread his run with JMS. Those two were legendary on Amazing Spider-Man

That was the Spidey I grew up with. That story where Norman had Peter kidnapped and was trying to drive him insane was *intense*.

This is very cool, but I’m not sure that the darker Spider-Man stuff works very well.

Even tho I’m definitely not a fan of Romita Jr’s art in general, this piece is a masterpiece.

always had a soft spot for JRJR’s work. Probably because Kick-ass was one of the first trade paper back I bought when I Was getting into Comics. Must say his Marvel stuff was a lot better than his current DC output.

    **Story Time**

I once posted on CBR on the Hulk board during the time of World War Hulk that I disliked his artwork for the blocky style, recycled poses, and “creativity” with proportions. Nothing mean or anything, just somewhat critical. I just basically said that I didn’t understand the praise.

I shit you not, he appeared out of nowhere and actually replied to my critique with an extremely unprofessional response. He kinda “rallied the troops” and got a bunch of posters to belittle me for what I had said. They were all trying to impress him with their bashing of me or something. He had been monitoring this thread about him and I was the first person to post something that wasn’t positive. I don’t know how to explain the experience except to say that it was surreal.

The lesson here is that JRJR does not like criticism.

JRJr: Finished the page dad, it’s ready to ink
JRSr: ah that’s great, the lines work wonders to make it look like it’s raining
    JRJr: Rain?

Always hated jr.s work. It comes across as lazy. Looks as though a child drew it. It just goes to show, just because your parents had talent, doesn’t mean you will.
