I thought I would never be happy with a trade that included one of my untouchables in Rutherford. Surprisingly I’m ok with this deal. Hear me out.

We basically just gave up Rutherford. Clarkin is never gonna amount to much in the majors and is a fringe prospect. Clip is hot garbage. And the fourth guy is ~~apparently not even worth mentioning~~ Tito Polo lol. For this one elite prospect we got THREE AND A HALF years of control on an elite looking reliever in Khanle. He has a 1.47 FIP this year and is 27 which means that we get all of his good years for cheap. In addition we get 1.5 year of control on another elite reliever in Robertson. This gives us 3 elite relievers in Chapman, Betances, and Robertson, 2 elite looking relievers in Green and Kahnle, and a very good reliever that can go multiple innings in warren. All our pen is missing is a lefty specialist, but all of these guys can get lefties out. These are 5 guys that I have a lot of confidence in. This to me is the best bullpen in baseball. We all know that bullpen is immensely important in the playoffs and this bullpen could essentially shorten games to 4 innings. Hell include warren and call it a 3 inning game. This bullpen is bonkers. In addition we solve the first base problem in the perfect way possible. Frazier obviously needed a change of scenery (145 wrc+ on the road, 62 wrc+ at home). He solves our short term first base problem and if Bird makes it back this year (lol) we have a righty bat to platoon with Bird the lefty and Chase headley who has forgotten how to hit lefties this year. In addition, he’s a rental, but this means that we won’t face the who starts conundrum when Bird is healthy next year (pls god pls). Also we get a chance to see Frazier go back to back with Frazier for two consecutive downtown goes Frazier calls.

We get all of this for a guy who won’t hit the majors for at least two years. And when he does he has to fight his way through Judge, Frazier, Hicks, and Harper. Not to mention guys like Florial and Fowler. We dealt from an the deepest position in our organization to solve two of our biggest needs. Also we fucked the red sox out of Frazier and Drob after all of these writers told me it was basically a done deal and “inevitable”, hnnggg. Rutherford may very well be an all star, but I still love this trade.

What number does Robertson wear now that Clint Frazier wears his #30?

Do the Yankees issue #21 to Todd Frazier? That number was notably worn by Yankee great and current color commentator Paul O’Neill. In 2008, the team [infamously issued his number to LaTroy Hawkins](https://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/15/hawkins-gives-up-no-21/), and it resulted in Hawkins getting booed by fans and switching to #22.

Also two Fraziers on the team? John Sterling must be on suicide watch; he’s gonna have to come up with individualized HR calls for each of them.

I can live with this deal. We still have OF prospects in the minors and our bullpen is looking great. I’d still love to know what we do with that 5th rotation spot though.

I didn’t know what to think at first. If Rutherford was gone, I wanted starting pitching, and I kind of had my heart set on that. But after thinking about it for awhile, I LOVE this trade. Robertson and Kahnle are great RP’s that have more of an impact than just a half season, and I think it makes us a lot more competitive this year and pushes us into the playoffs.

Not to mention CLIPPARD IS FUCKING GONE!!! I honestly think Frazier is the “smallest” part of this deal. He’ll probably play first, and I really don’t expect anything from him besides more home runs. Sort of like an improved Chris Carter (hopefully.. I mean, the bar is low). I wonder if he was a “throw in” because we didn’t want the Red Sox to get him. Either way, with Clint playing so goddamn well, I think this trade had to be made with the glut of outfielders, and I think Cashman got a pretty good return

lmao at Sox fans saying we went “all in” in this trade. Not touching Frazier/Torres and only giving up one of Rutherford/Mateo without including any others was LITERALLY best case scenario

    July 19, 2017 at 5:09 am

I like Tito Polo. I think he was rule 5 eligible next year so i knew he had zero chance to be added to the 40 man roster. I have a feeling that he’ll have an okay big league career.

tbh, i like the deal for both teams. My only concern is if Kahnle can keep up his production

  30. Robusto923

    July 19, 2017 at 5:09 am

Im just nervous Sterling isn’t going to have enough creativity for two different Frazier home run calls.

  31. stantheman0033

    July 19, 2017 at 5:09 am

Love getting Robertson back and Kahnle, I think the Frazier part is over hyped though because last time I checked he was still batting like 0.215 or something like that.

But he certainly does add more flexibility and depth that we need with all the injuries.

  32. viewless25

    July 19, 2017 at 5:09 am

I’ll take it. It’s a shame I won’t ever get to see Blake Ruth. But we could work around losing an outfielder. We still have Hicks and Ellsbury clogging the pipelin at CF, and eventually Harper or someone might sign as a FA.

I’m interested that we kept Jorge Mateo around, he may still be traded, but it’s telling the team wanted to keep him. I wonder if we ever consider playing Mateo at CF. would have been more likely had Torres not been injured this year. But this is some much needed pitching help, CLippard wasn’t bad, but it’s an upgrade

    July 19, 2017 at 5:09 am

Now, can we do a Betances/Chapman/Robertson for 7/8/9 like we did last year? Or maybe mix Green in there somewhere?

  36. Gay4Teemo

    July 19, 2017 at 5:09 am

i dont really like this i know frazier, robertson and kahnle are big upgrades but i feel like if we waited a few years rutherford could have been worth a lot more. When he is about to be mlb ready even though he might have been blocked by some of the other outfielders we have i think the team then will be alot better than it is now and could be one piece away from winning which maybe couldve been the rutherford trade. Either way i have faith in Cashgod and will still support this

The Yankees have the building blocks for a very dominant team next season. Potentially elite offense, bullpen — essentially a Yu Darvish away from being ALE favorites.
