This is one of the best ideas I’ve ever read. I mean, just getting Stevie Wonder on ANY show would be fantastic by itself.

I worked The Hangout Music Festival the year Stevie Wonder played. As we began clearing the stage a security guy said, “Mr. Wonder, are these guys with you?” Not missing a beat he said, “I’ve never seen these guys in my life.”

That won’t work because he’s been faking blind the whole time.

Only let blind people be judges. Or keep contestants in a dark hamster cage where you only hear their voice. They can have those feedy bottle things for water in a corner. Rodent costume optional.

What’s black and loud? Stevie Wonder answering the iron.

  11. PointOfFingers

    July 18, 2017 at 5:27 pm

That doesn’t do a lot to improve the show. What they should do is have one deaf judge who faces towards the singer and turns their chair if they don’t like what they are seeing. That way a beautiful person who cannot sing can still get through.

Stevie Wonder puts everybody else on the show to shame. They aren’t even on his level. Stevie can do it all.

Just a tid-bit that you and others might enjoy… Seasons 1 & 2, (perhaps 3,) of the voice were made before the American Idol Producers ‘bought’ the show. After that, well…

‘The Voice’ went from being a show that embraced the talented individuals who were not conventionally attractive/beautiful/handsome and therefore not given the same opportunities to… American Idol with a new gimmick.

    July 18, 2017 at 5:27 pm

Honest question, since I’ve only seen “The Voice” once, but does it ever feature artists who have written and composed their own music?

Stevie Wonder is an *actual* musical genius.
Based on what I saw of “The Voice” (very limited, so open to being wrong about this), it’s some singers and performers- and that’s all good and well- but limited creative talent. Those people are something completely different than a creative musical genius.

If there was a show called “The Composer” that featured creative artists, Stevie Wonder would probably be the absolute best possible judge. To watch some pretty girl sing a cover of a Bob Dylan song or (someone else) sing (some other cover) of (some other song) or (someone else) sing (another cover) of (a different song), may as well be judged by TV and movie celebrities since that musical product is just as irrelevant as they are.

Dylan said that 12 years ago on Theme Time. The judges should only be able to hear, not see, the contestants on these modern day Gong Shows.

    July 18, 2017 at 5:27 pm

Only the audition is blind. The rest of it includes the most important part of being a performer: performing. Stevie Wonder is fantastic at what he does, but he’s not a performer. He’s an artist, a master of his craft, but not a spectacle.

  52. VellDarksbane

    July 18, 2017 at 5:27 pm

It sounds good, but wouldn’t be good. The “entertainment” value of that part of the show is of watching the judges react to seeing the person and having to adjust their mental image of that person on the fly.

Stevie wonder is one of the most prolific singer song writers of the past and current century. He might be a smidge above it… I am with blinding the current guests.

You could do it in fun different ways every ep. Like have each of them spin a wheel with a range from pepper spray to a cornea scratch.

I think that some orchestras were hiring based solely on musicianship, by having the recital behind a curtain, to take race and gender and whatnot out of the decision.

Turns out that it resulted in a very homogeneous orchestra (not in line with their diversity goals) and they had to start including race and gender in their hiring practices.
