It has been 8,599 days since Notre Dame last won a football game played in January

Their last win in a game played in January came on January 1st, 1994. In that stretch they have gone 0-9 in January football games:

2016 Fiesta Bowl vs Ohio State: Loss 44-28

2013 NCG vs Alabama: lol

2007 Sugar Bowl vs LSU: Loss 41-14

2006 Fiesta Bowl vs Ohio State: Loss 34-20

2003 Gator Bowl vs NC State: Loss 28-6

2001 Fiesta Bowl vs Oregon State: Loss 41-9

1999 Gator Bowl vs Georgia Tech: Loss 35-28

1996 Orange Bowl vs Florida State: Loss 31-26

1995 Fiesta Bowl vs Colorado: Loss 41-24

**1994 Cotton Bowl vs Texas A&M: Win 24-21**

So, in summary, I wish I was never born.

I still remember that hangover. By halftime I was chugging from a bottle of whiskey and telling everyone to shut the fuck up.

**ADDITIONAL FACT:** Notre Dame’s 1994 Cotton Bowl victory over Texas A&M took place during a time when Pluto was closer to the Sun than Neptune.

What actually is the deal with Notre Dame? They’re still a ridiculously huge brand, and it’s not like they have Nebraska’s seemingly simple issues to explain falling off a bit from true Blue Blood level. I don’t get why they aren’t still dominant all the time.

Only two of those games were losses by less than 10 points.

I mean… one was the National Title game and 6 were BCS games. Sure it sucks to lose, but you’re better off than the vast majority of teams that never even get to sniff at those games.

For what it’s worth, Notre Dame gave us a HELL of a game in 2015. I look forward to playing them in South Bend in a few years and hope they can re-establish themselves as a consistent power.

Notre Dame is like marijuana. They both get smoked in bowls.

6 of those 8 teams have also won at least one national title since Notre Dame’s last one.

    Best part:
    >2013 NCG vs Alabama: **lol**

    But this one:
    >1994 Cotton Bowl vs Texas A&M: Win 24-21

I was at that damned game, and the one the year before. First time I ever spent a day outdoors surrounded by snow. Being from Houston, I was woefully unprepared for how cold it was. At least my friends were there.

I expect it was unusual that we faced the same opponent in the same bowl game in consecutive years, I wonder how often that has happened in the last 25 years. One of our stat nerds must have a dataset they can tease that out of.

Last Jan win came against a then SWC team.

The streak is also old enough to include a loss to a Big 8 team.

The sad thing (at least for Irish fans such as myself) is if Kansas State doesn’t screw the pooch and lose to Baylor, it would have been ND versus KSU instead of Alabama and say what you will about the 2012 ND team, but I think they beat KSU by at least 10 and win the National Championship that season.
