Have you lost your PC in Auckland recently?

Hi /r/newzealand. I am the IT manager for a shopping centre in Auckland. I have been handed a PC that was found in the bushes at work here and even though the CPU and RAM are gone, the rest appears to be intact including a GTX 680 vid card, case, mobo, and 1TB hdd. We are assuming that it was stolen not abandoned.

I have gone though the fairly clean hdd and the only piece of identifying info on it was the steam account and the guy plays DOTA and has reddit as a favorite website so I posted to the DOTA reddits but they suggested that I post here too for visibility.

I have sent a friend request to his private account and been denied so I am running out of options.

If you recently had your PC stolen and believe you are the guy that owns this hardware can you contact me please?

It sounds a bit like the thief was using Steam and Reddit on a stolen pc then decided te get rid of it before cleaning their traces.

Good work for going to all that effort, but perhaps if it was stolen it was reported to the police they have the owner’s details.

If you can find out the steam account username from the steam folder, try to contact them via Steam?

I know that a GTX 680 isn’t lightning fast and super new these days but who would steal a PC and keep just the CPU & RAM without also taking the GPU? My current gaming PC is still on a GTX 770 so maybe I am still ok with the idea of a GTX 680 running games.

I built a new PC sooner than expected and I kept the 770 as I didn’t want to get any GTX 9xx card (the GTX 10xx cards were on the horizon). I decided to wait long enough for the GTX 1080 price to drop a bit for the the 1080 Ti to be releasedt… I am just going to grab a 1080 Ti next month as I cannot keep waiting for some perfect time/price point to have been reached.

The guy probably upgraded and just dumped his old parts, which is why he doesn’t want to be contacted.

Were there any other goods dumped besides the PC? If not, then it’s likely to just be trash, rather than stolen goods.

K this matches me pretty well, but unless it was found real close to Epsom it won’t be me. What case was it?

I did. It’s missing the CPU and RAM, but has a GTX 680 and 1TB HDD.

    Pls ship to Wellington.

Can I have it if it isn’t claimed? Been meaning to go desktop for ages and thus means I wouldn’t have to spend too much
